Mark Schottenfeld, MD

Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery

Dr. Mark Schottenfeld earned his medical degree from Chicago Medical School in 1967 and performed his internship at the University of Chicago Hospitals. He then spent a year in London, first as a clinical assistant at the National Heart Hospital, then as a thoracic surgeon at the Hospital for Sick Children.

When he returned to the U.S., Dr. Schottenfeld completed a residency in general surgery, a fellowship in thoracic surgery, and a residency in orthopedic surgery at New York University Medical Center.

Dr. Schottenfeld is board certified in orthopedic surgery. From 1977 to 2005 he served as an instructor in clinical orthopedic surgery at New York University. He has performed thousands of hip and knee joint replacements and over 15,000 arthroscopies. Special interests include adult reconstructive orthopedic surgery, minimally invasive joint replacement, and sports medicine.

As the former team orthopedic surgeon for the New Jersey Generals (United States Football League) from 1983 to 1986, he understands the needs and requirements of current and former athletes whose competitive years are behind them.

Dr. Schottenfeld is an active member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
